Teaching &Training
I believe all students can learn something, regardless of how different their learning styles are. As an educator, I must ascertain students' learning modalities and integrate that knowledge into my class plans. When a student fails to succeed, I assess their needs, my instructional methods, and the materials I have developed, seeking to customize them to meet their individual requirements.
Guiding Principles
Leveraging pupils' existing knowledge and skills.
Motivation drives students' learning pursuits.
To attain mastery, students must acquire component talents, synthesis them, and choose the proper application.
Self-directed learners assess and improve their learning practices.
Rationale
People have long believed that pupils' past knowledge is the most significant factor in determining their success in the classroom later on.
A robust foundation of background knowledge enhances an individual's capacity to assimilate new information and successfully utilize metacognitive problem-solving skills. While prior knowledge is not essential for product training, it can be advantageous when illustrating tasks such as searching, downloading documentation, and annotating documents, among others.
Prior familiarity with online searching, browser operation, program login, and related activities is advantageous when initiating the navigation procedure. At the commencement of a fresh training session, my initial inquiries are invariably, "Have you previously utilized XYZ?" and "In what manner do you intend to employ XYZ?" These two inquiries have provided me with a clearer understanding of the training process.
Instructional Strategies
Leveraging pupils' existing knowledge and skills.
Brainstorming - This is excellent for determining what a student knows. I start each call by asking the students what they know about searching for data online. As they respond, I jot them down to get a sense of where to begin.
Motivation drives students' learning pursuits.
Rewards for Participation - This can be done both online and in person. I have a point system for my online students based on how many questions they ask or answer. To keep track of things, I use an online white board.
To attain mastery, students must acquire component talents, synthesis them, and choose the proper application.
Quizzes - I use quizzes to understand what my students comprehend during training. Online classes receive a video and link to a quiz the last few minutes of the class. The video is about 3 minutes long and they have 3 questions to answer at the end. They can ask questions in the chat and once they are done, they receive a certificate and can move onto the next class. In-person quizzes take place on their computers. These are a little longer and I allow them to use their notes and tip sheets. Once they are done, I give them their certificate so their manager knows they have mastered this skill and are ready for the next class.
